Male and Female hair loss commonly occurs as a result of inherited balding (androgenic hair loss). Aging is also a factor that causes balding and affects men and women individually. Genetic hair loss is caused by the male hormone Dehydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT affects the hair follicles by accelerating the regular growth cycles of hair. This results in miniaturization of the follicle causing the hair to fall out. Furthermore hair loss may be caused by inflammation, accidents or several diseases.
Prior to a procedure, every patient of Concord will be instructed via email a list of instructions to follow to prepare for their hair transplant. Our team will make sure the patient is under the greatest care and all medical history is taken into account prior to the procedure to minimize all risks.
Every step of the procedure at Concord is meticulously performed to obtain optimum results. The maximum time for every procedure will depend on the amount of grafts (hair follicles) needed. Patients with progressive balding will require a higher amount of grafts, between 2500 to 3500 grafts. A procedure of that size will take between 8-10 hours. Patients that require a graft count between 1500 to 2500 grafts, 6-8 hours. A transplant below 1500 grafts will take approximately 3-5 hours to complete.
The entire hair transplant procedure will be performed under local anaesthesia. This means the patient will be awake and not feel any pain throughout the whole process. Many of Concords’ patients are pleasantly surprised how little discomfort they experience when they are injected with the numbing agent in the scalp area. After the extraction process you will be allowed to sit back and relax or have lunchtime. For the graft relocation process our team will use local anaesthesia again to eliminate any pain for the remainder of the procedure. You will have the option to watch a movie or listen to your preferred music.
For a FUE hair transplant, the only part of the scalp that needs to be shaved is the back of the head aka the donor site. Many male patients elect to just completely shave the entire scalp for aesthetic purposes. Female patients will also have their donor site also shaved for the procedure. Female patients with long hair will be able to mask the shaved donor site and it will not be noticeable. Concord appreciates the personal needs and preferences of its patients and will do its best to make sure they can migrate back to social life instantly.
Our medical team will use all their artistic skills to delicately perform expert hair transplants with one of the lowest transection rates in the business. Concord has an average yield of about 1-2% only.
After the hair transplant the majority of patients will initially experience some shedding of the new transplanted hairs. This is normal. The hairs will fall out but the follicles remain. Remember, we are transplanting follicles, not hairs. Following this phase, the transplanted follicles will regrow hairs after 3 months. The final result of a hair transplant will not be expected until 8-12 months post procedure. It is normal to experience some anxiousness and impatience during this time. The key is to follow the doctors post-procedure instructions and recommendations and not worry. The hairs will grow and you will have new and amazing looking hair.
The FUE hair transplant is a minimally invasive procedure. The recovery time is shorter than than any other methods out there. Scabs can take up to a week to fall off and some reddening at the recipient site will occur for a while. Concord recommends patients wait for at least 2-4 days before going back to work again. No physical activity is recommended for the first ten days during the healing process to ensure success of the hair transplant. Depending on the physical requirements of the patient´s work we ask to avoid strenuous activities and sweating during the first ten days. Patients who do not mind the scabbing or a shaved look and do not have a physically demanding job can feel free to instantly go back to work after the transplant.
We will give you personal instructions after the hair transplant procedure to take home. This includes finishing a course of antibiotics, using a copper spray for itching and special shampoo to be used for head washing. Patients that wear a cap or hat should avoid doing so for the first two weeks. We kindly recommend no sports and to avoid sweating during the first 10 days post transplant. Excessive sun exposure to the recipient site should be avoided for the first three months following the transplant. In case you plan to travel to a country with strong sunlight we kindly recommend you to wear a cap or hat.
Successfully transplanted donor hair from the scalp will achieve the same characteristics in length, calibre and color as before. Scalp hair tends to grow endlessly which means it will match with pre-existing hair at the recipient site and does not show any difference.
Patients that have extensive baldness will not have enough hair to transplant from the regular donor site area since there is not an abundance of hair supply available. Those with little donor supply may consider using body hair in case there is sufficient beard or chest-hair available.
Unlike older methods of hair transplant such as FUT aka the strip method, the state-of-the-art technique of FUE allows for a minimally invasive hair restoration process. During the extraction process a manual punch extractor between 0.8 to 1.0 mm will be used to delicately remove the hair follicles from the donor area. No visible scars will be left behind. This method is currently the gold-standard for hair transplant
worldwide.

No, the donor hair is transplanted from locations on the scalp that are not susceptible to hair loss as they do not have androgen receptors.
